Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel
So is it “third time a charm??
Next month Hong Kong Disneyland will officially unveil its flagship 400-room hotel the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. This new Victorian masterpiece is the third incarnation of the historic Hotel del Coronado-inspired resort. However this version only shares a cosmetic similarity to its forerunners Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa at Walt Disney World and the Disneyland Hotel at Disneyland Resort Paris.
As guests enter through the Porte-Cochere they will enter the lounge lobby. The Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel does not have a central atrium like the Grand Floridian that acts as a hub for all public spaces. The multi-storey atrium in Penny’s Bay is a beautiful rest spot for guests with waitress service and a panoramic view of the gardens. Flanking the entrance are two Victorian Disney sculptures featuring Mickey and Minnie. A caged elevator featuring elaborate wrought ironwork sits at the heart of the lounge. The Sorceror’s Lounge is immediately off of the atrium and has been furnished with dark woods and oversized chairs. Two chandeliers spectacularly hang from the domed roofs (can you spot the difference between the two?).
Also on the ground floor are the retail store and the most stunning Disney restaurant ever conceived. The Crystal Lotus is the resort’s premier facility with a menu designed by one of the region’s most highly regarded chefs. The restaurant is awash with WDI Research and Development toys such as the floor-mounted interactive koi pond (apologies but it is not possible to photograph properly and is therefore absent here) which reacts to guests’ movements. In addition the waiting area has a fiery red-colored bar. Incredible new 3D technology has been designed to make it look as if vodka bottles are catching on fire periodically (again it was not possible to photograph accurately). The restaurant has crystal lotuses scattered throughout the dining room and the huge vertical wall display at the entrance. In addition alcoves throughout the room have giant lotuses with constantly changing patterns. The remaining fixtures are manufactured of dark woods and rich fabrics.
Utilising the staircase that wraps around the lobby caged elevator guests can descend to the gardens level and the Enchanted Garden buffet restaurant. Imagineers have designed this dining hall to feel like a Victorian garden with painted topiaries, indoor trellises and a marble fountain. The facility will feature character dining from 12 September.
This update also showcases the indoor Victorian Spa. This world-class spa is managed by Paua a local operator. The pictures certainly speak for themselves with this stunning space under one of the hotel’s wings.
The five paintings sit immediately behind the check-in desk and depict the park during the era when the hotel is meant to stand. The Cinderella Chandelier is suspended over a sweeping staircase with castle mural that will be used by wedding parties for photographs. The final two photographs are of the main ballroom chandelier.
In our second update from the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel we will feature interior shots of the rooms (including the flagship Walt Disney Suite) and the landscaped gardens. Enjoy!
