Lelyveld Appointed Disney Vice President, Digital Industry Relations

Philip Lelyveld has been promoted to vice president, Digital Industry Relations, it was announced today by Bob Lambert, senior vice president, New Technology for The Walt Disney Co.

Lelyveld, 48, will lead Disney's efforts in emerging technology standards and related inter-industry technology strategies, including digital cinema, digital production and enhanced television standards, digital rights management and other new media initiatives. He will report to Lambert.

"We're at a time of unique collaboration between the content, hardware and distribution infrastructure businesses," Lambert said. "As Disney's representative in many of the industry-wide technical issues, Phil has been instrumental in advancing the collaborations required to make these initiatives successful to Disney as a leading entertainment and media company, and for the industry as a whole."

Lelyveld joined Disney in 1997 as director, Digital Industry Relations. In this role, he worked with the company's business units on a wide range of initiatives in advanced television, digital cinema, emerging media and content protection. In addition, he served as Disney's representative at technical forums worldwide.

Prior to joining Disney, Lelyveld was an independent consultant in strategic planning and business development to high-tech and new media businesses, and was director of Exploration Computing Services at ARCO International for 10 years.

Lelyveld has a master of business administration degree (technology management) from the University of California Los Angeles, a master of science degree in applied geophysics from Stanford University, and a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Tufts University.

Lelyveld has been an active member of the Los Angeles new media community for more than 10 years.
