Historic Walt Disney Barn to Celebrate Five Years of Magical Memories
The public is invited to participate in the 5th anniversary celebration of Walt Disney’s Barn in Griffith Park on Sunday, July 18. Dubbed “Five Years of Magical Memories?, this day is certain to become one of the most memorable yet.
In July 1999 the quaint red 1900 era barn, which was the centerpiece of Walt Disney’s miniature live steam Carolwood Pacific Railroad and which served as his personal workshop, was relocated from the family's Holmby Hills property to its new home in Griffith Park. Over the last five years more than 10,000 visitors of all ages have had the opportunity to learn more about the personal side of one of the most influential men of the 20th century through this living showcase of Walt’s railroad legacy.
Walt’s Barn is filled with his personal railroad memorabilia, tools and other artifacts, plus other scale model railroad displays belonging to or in tribute to Disney animators & legends, members of the Los Angeles Live Steamers, and members of the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society.
In addition to our visitors, many special programs have been presented over the past five years including guest appearances by Disney Legend honorees such as Ward Kimball and Ollie Johsnston, former Mouseketeer Bobby Burgess, “Engineer Bill? Stulla, Roy Disney, Margaret “Tinker Bell? Kerry, Bob Gurr and others. During this 5th year celebration, all these special guests have been invited back to participate in the festivities.
“This anniversary marks a significant accomplishment for CPHS?, states Terry Lynn, Walt’s Barn Crew Chief. “We’re proud to have volunteers who come out month after month to keep this legacy alive and having been here since the beginning, I encourage folks to come out for this celebration, as you never know what might happen at Walt’s Barn.?
Visitors to Walt’s Barn on Sunday, July 18, will have the opportunity to create some special memories when they personally meet many of the Disney Legends, Imagineers & Animators who show up on this special day. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and bring their cameras & autograph books. Admission and parking to this special event are free.
