Once again this year the Walt Disney Company is working with the American Red Cross in an attempt to get the message out about what to do in an emergency.  Word of the continuing partnership comes during the month of September which is National Emergency Preparedness Month.

Part of this year’s campaign features a new disaster preparedness video featuring Cameron Boyce, who stars as Luke Ross on the popular Disney Channel series “Jessie.” The spot features Boyce and his friends discussing the basics of emergency preparedness: Learn, Practice, Share, Be Prepared.  Boyce and company are seen preparing for emergencies as an activity that is easy, fun and a way to help reduce children’s anxieties about the unexpected.

The promotional spot will be featured on many of the Disney Company’s platforms including on-air on Disney Channel as well as on its website Disney.com.

Following the success of last year’s digital download activity pamphlet, Disney is again featuring the Mickey and Friends Disaster Preparedness Activity Book.  The booklet makes emergency planning a fun-filled, family-activity through a series of interactive games and exercises focusing on what-to-do safety tips in the event of a thunderstorm, fire, tornado, flood, earthquake and winter storms.

At the conclusion of the 30 page workbook, participants can download and print the safety certificate to display proudly in their bedroom or on the kitchen refrigerator door letting everyone know they have taken the steps to become prepared for disasters.

The Mouse House is also supporting a number of other Red Cross initiatives, including the expansion of The Pillowcase Project.  The initiative supports in-school and after-school curriculum to help third to fifth graders and their families prepare for disasters.  Trained instructors teach youngsters a number of safety actions, including the creation of a family emergency plan and kit by packing essential items into a pillowcase for easy transport.

Disney is also lending its support to the development of a new mobile app for youth to use in the event of emergency.  The app is expected to be available for download for Apple and Android devices by early November.
