For years Orlando has been waiting for a performing arts center to put the city on the level with places such as Los Angeles and New York and for the past 3 years the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has been under construction which culminated in a ribbon cutting held on November 6, 2014.

Even Jim MacPhee, Senior Vice President, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, was on hand to talk about how Walt Disney would have been proud of what they have done.

After the ceremony we were giving a tour of the new facility.

The beautiful state of the art performing arts center is only the 38th of its kind in the world, housed on a nine-acre site is currently only finished with its first phase with 2 performance theaters.

The first theater, the Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater, is a 300+ seat multi-purpose room that can be configured many different ways to accommodate anything from theater in the round to wedding ceremonies.

One of the more unique area of the Dr. Phillips Center is the Della Phillips Grand Lobby with one of the most glorious staircases you’ll see outside a cruise ship and a actual small performing area.

But the crowning achievement of the Center is of course 2700+ seat Walt Disney Theater. The theater was designed to look somewhat like the Greek Parthenon with amazing sight lines and state of the art sound system.

By far one of the highlights of the tour was the chance to walk backstage and on stage of the Walt Disney Theater.

If you are in Florida or visiting and just need to get away from the theme parks make sure to check the schedule for Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing ArtsĀ . Here is a look at the upcoming schedule.
