Bill Nye, the celebrity scientist best known as The Science Guy, has filed a new lawsuit against Disney, ABC, Buena Vista, Touchstone and other subsidiaries. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nye says the company owes him at least $9 million and has been misclassifying revenues and expenses from his popular children’s program that aired from 1993 to 1998. Nye reports first discovering an accounting error in 2008 and engaged in “futile negotiations” with Disney to obtain more documents associated with the error. Eventually, Nye hired an external auditor to investigate. Although that audit was completed last year, Nye says Disney failed to produce documents related to deals with Netflix, Apple, and others. It’s worth noting that, while unrelated to the suit, two Walt Disney World attractions featuring Nye — Cyber Space Mountain at DisneyQuest and the Universe of Energy at Epcot — have both closed in recent months.
