Toy Story 2
Special Edition Disney DVD
Plastics, Part Deux
On the heels of this past fall’s Toy Story
10th Anniversary Edition DVD comes a new Toy Story 2
Special Edition, also remastered and remixed to maximum effect for today’s home
entertainment systems. Images and sound are crystal-clear as would be expected;
for a full technical analysis, see the original
Toy Story DVD review here.
Originally intended as a direct-to-video sequel,
the folks at Pixar and Disney wisely saw that they had gold on their hands with
TS 2 and released it theatrically, four years after the first
groundbreaking film, to unanimous praise and popularity. It was quickly deemed
one of those rare breeds, the sequel equal to, if not better than, the original
(see “Out of the Box? sidebar, below).
Taking the best of the first Story and
deftly tweaking it just enough to remain fresh, yet still true to the original,
2 cemented Pixar’s reputation as the preeminent storyteller in the
computer animation medium, a fact that has continued to this day with all of
their subsequent pictures (their latest, Cars - due next summer, is
previewed on this set with a new trailer).
Available previously as either a bare-bones
single disc or as part of The Ultimate Toy Box, collector’s who don’t
have the Box set are now able to own a bonus-laden edition of this
award-winning contemporary classic.
