Averi Harper Promoted to Political Director at ABC News

ABC News has chosen Averi Harper to serve as their next political director, where she will lead the new division’s political and editorial content.

  • ABC News has announced that Averi Harper will be climbing up the ladder at the news network, taking on a new role as political director.
  • She succeeds Washington D.C. Bureau Chief Rick Klein as he relocates to New York. She will still report to Klein in her new position.
  • In Harper’s new role she will help lead a spearhead of political coverage and editorial content across all ABC News programs, platforms, special events, and breaking news coverage.
  • Her role will also see her oversee the political until and collaborate across ABC News to coordinate coverage with polling partners, Decision Desk operations, and ABC Owned Television Stations.
  • The new role will also see Harper continue to provide analysis for the network, both on and off the air.
  • Harper has been with ABC since 2019, where she served as a campaign reporter and producer for the 2020 presidential election cycle. She was promoted in 2021 as deputy political director for ABC News.
  • Her previous on-air positions include a general assignment reporter at New 12 New York, a morning reporter for KRON-TV in San Francisco, and a bureau reporter and fill-in anchor at WCTI-TV in Greenville, North Carolina.
