Top 5 Tips for Visiting Disneyland By Yourself

Doing Disneyland solo calls for some different approaches to the parks.

Traveling to Disneyland solo can be a very fun experience with the most flexibility to structure your day however you want! Many guests wonder if a solo Disneyland trip is worth it, and if so, how to best go about doing it. We think it absolutely is, and we will share all of the things you will want to consider for this type of trip!

Here are our top 5 tips for doing Disneyland solo that you’ll want to keep in mind.

1) Bring a portable charger. This is always one of the essential items for your Disneyland packing list that you don’t want to forget, and it’s especially crucial when you’re visiting solo. You’ll likely be spending more time on your phone without others in your group to chat with, and on top of that, you’ll be using the Disneyland app for things like mobile ordering, making Lightning Lane reservations, etc. which can drain your battery quickly. Make sure you bring a portable charger so that you don’t have to resort to purchasing a FuelRod charger at Disneyland in a pinch!

2) Take advantage of Single Rider lines (and know which ones to avoid). This may seem like a no-brainer, but utilizing Disneyland Single Rider lines when traveling solo can truly help you save a lot of time and even potentially get some repeat rides in. One of the biggest advantages of traveling to Disneyland solo is that you can hop in these lines as many times as you want without worrying about others in your group!

These separate Single Rider lines are often a much shorter wait than the standby line. We like to use Single Rider for Radiator Springs Racers in particular to avoid the Lightning Lane Single Pass cost.

That being said, not all Single Rider lines are worth it. For example, if you do this option for Millennium Falcon, you are almost guaranteed to be an engineer, the least exciting role in the ride. Also, make sure to keep an ear out when waiting in line for non-Single Rider lines, as Cast Members will sometimes call for a single rider to fill a spot, which can save you a few extra moments of time.

3) Take some quality Photopass pictures! Traveling solo is a great time to get some PhotoPass pictures of yourself at iconic spots around the parks or with your favorite characters. Don’t forget Magic Shots, where a Disney PhotoPass photographer will digitally add a special effect to your picture like a Disney character! See our top tips for taking the best Disneyland PhotoPass pictures.

4) Embrace spontaneity when traveling solo. One of the biggest advantages of going to Disneyland alone is that you can do whatever you feel like! It’s also likely that without others in your group, you’ll be more observant of what’s happening around you. If you notice something that catches your interest, don’t be afraid to go check it out!

This is a good time to chat with a roaming character, peruse the merchandise in the stores if you see something interesting in the window, or grab a Dole Whip that’s been calling your name. You and you alone decide your own plans when visiting solo!

5) Treat yourself by splurging on a special experience! A solo trip can be a great time to treat yourself to something you wouldn’t typically do like a signature dining experience, World of Color Dessert party viewing, etc. Eating for one is more affordable, so you can have a little bit of fun with your dining experience!

You’ll want to make reservations for any popular dining experiences in advance if possible (and you can always try searching for a table of two if nothing is coming up for one) but you can also try to join the walkup list for certain restaurants if you don’t have reservations.

If you’re looking to really splurge, you can consider one of the Disneyland guided tours if there are any that are of interest to you. See more of the Disneyland splurges that could be worth it.
