Photos / Video: Preview the New Jewels of the Sea Jellyfish Exhibit at SeaWorld San Diego Prior to This Weekend's Opening

This jellyfish experience makes for a visually appealing and extremely informative addition to the park.

Yesterday Laughing Place was invited down to SeaWorld San Diego for a media preview of the all-new Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience exhibit, and below are my photos and video from our visit.

In the YouTube video embedded below, you can watch a full walkthrough of the exhibit and a brief conversation I had with a SeaWorld San Diego representative about what guests can expect when they step into Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience.

Watch PREVIEW - Jewels of the Sea all-new jellyfish exhibit at SeaWorld San Diego:

Rewinding time a little bit, it was an overcast morning when we first arrived at SeaWorld San Diego yesterday, but that didn’t stop us from checking out the Jewels of the Sea signage outside the park entrance, among some other decor celebrating the park’s 60th anniversary.

Further on inside the park, Jewels of the Sea takes up the space formerly occupied by the load building for the infamously short-lived Submarine Quest attraction.

Informational signage and a jellyfish-themed photo op surround the entrance to Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience.

More signs providing jellyfish facts and an enormous jellyfish made out of recycled materials found outside the exhibit’s entrance.

Stepping inside Jewels of the Sea I was immediately struck by the effectively moody lighting, and the designs of the tanks, some of which were not fully populated with jellyfish quite yet, though they will be by the time of the exhibit’s opening this coming weekend.

Above you can see the interactive habitat that allows guests to get up-close-and-personal with some upside-down jellyfish, and below is the enormous water globe filled with beautiful moon jellies.

I was simultaneously amused and informed by the “Painbow" chart (seen above) and then further enchanted by the ten-foot-tall archway of moon jellies.

Further on into the exhibit stands a gorgeous 14-foot-tall jellyfish aquarium alongside some more informational placards.

Turning a corner into the Medusa Gallery provides one of the most jaw-dropping views inside Jewels of the Sea– immersive floor-to-ceiling wraparound LED screens provide jellyfish facts and some incredibly cool-looking visuals, among a number of additional tanks containing a variety of captivating jellyfish species.

As neat as the previous rooms are, I believe the Medusa Gallery is where guests are going to find themselves wanting to spend most of their time. The screens project a roughly 15-minute loop that both entrances and educates, while the tanks contain some of the most visually arresting views on display.

Below you’ll find more photos from the exhibit’s stunning Medusa Gallery.

Around the final corner of Jewels of the Sea, once leaving the Medusa Gallery guests will naturally exit through the gift shop.

Here’s a look at some of the merchandise and apparel that will be available once Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience and its gift shop open this weekend.

Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience opens this Saturday, March 15th at SeaWorld San Diego. For additional information on the exhibit and to purchase advance tickets to the park, be sure to visit SeaWorld’s official website.
