  • Justice for Jonathan. Before Ferguson. Before Baltimore. Before the national media reported on the rash of shootings of African-American males by police, there was former Florida A&M football player Jonathan Ferrell. In the early morning hours of September 14, 2013, 24-year-old Ferrell was shot and killed by a white police officer in Charlotte, NC. Ferrell had been unarmed and was seeking assistance after a car accident. The police officer who shot him was put on trial for voluntary manslaughter this summer. But the end result was not what anyone had hoped for. E:60’s Lisa Salters reports on the events leading to the death of Jonathan Ferrell, the unprecedented trial and what’s next for the city of Charlotte.
