Adam Jacobs, currently starring as Aladdin in Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway, is releasing his debut solo album entitled “Right Where I Belong,” a compilation of songs by Tony Award, eight-time Oscar winner, and Disney Legend Alan Menken. Featured on the album will be well known tunes such as “Proud of Your Boy” (Aladdin), “Go The Distance” (Hercules), “Santa Fe” (Newsies), and “Suddenly Seymour” (Little Shop of Horrors, in duet with Jacobs’ sister Arielle Jacobs), as well as other melodies from Menken’s earlier works.
The album will be released December 13th and will be available digitally on iTunes, Google Music, Amazon, and Spotify. CDs can be purchased at the merchandise stand in New York City’s New Amsterdam Theatre, where Aladdin plays. Music direction and arrangements for the album were provided by James Abbott. Allan Detsky and Adam Jacobs are the executive producers.
Describing his motivation for producing the album, Jacobs said, “I’ve always loved Alan’s music, whether it was listening to classics like Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid when I was a kid, or singing his beloved songs onstage in Aladdin for the past 5 years. I can’t think of another composer whose music speaks so personally to people on so many different levels. Every song on my album carries the power to transport the listener and take them on a hero’s journey. Alan can make you laugh, cry, and jump for joy all in the same song. It’s truly an honor to share some of my favorite tunes of this world-class composer – I hope they inspire people as much as they’ve inspired me, both professionally and personally.”
“For the last 5 years, Adam and I have shared the most incredible journey: bringing an animated character who is so close to my heart to life on a Broadway stage,” said Menken. “And every step of the way I have been taken by Adam’s brilliant musicality and exciting stage presence as our Aladdin. Now, along with the rest of the world, I have the privilege of hearing an album’s worth of my songs, drawn from all kinds of diverse sources and moments in my composing career, brought fully to life by this amazing and talented young man. I hope everyone will find this experience as richly rewarding as I do.”
