As we continue our countdown to Walt Disney World’s 50th, Walt Disney Imagineering Site Portfolio Executive Zach Riddley has continued to show details for the new Creations Shop coming to EPCOT, this time checking out the new floor-to-ceiling glass walls.
What’s Happening:
- Zach Riddley has shared a look at the floor-to-ceiling glass walls Guests will be able to see at the new Creations Shop coming to EPCOT this summer.
- The glass walls allow Guests to get an incredible view outside as seen in the photos shared, and it wasn’t an easy task as mentioned by Zach, having to retrofit existing structures and making it look like the glass is emerging from the ground.
- This isn’t the first, and probably not the last, construction update we will get from Zach, as just last week he showed off some of the dichroic resin material fixtures and aluminum foam panels coming to the store as EPCOT continues its transformation.
Full Message from Zach Riddley:
“Light and openness was a main goal for our new Creations Shop at EPCOT. The original CommuniCore was built with floor to height glass. These spaces evolved over the years as Future World changed and new content came and went in these buildings, limiting views and covering many of the windows. In our new designs for these iconic structures we’ve opened things up – with completely new floor-to-ceiling glass walls.
To get glass this large we had to get creative – in both how to retrofit the existing structures but also integrate all the various conditions (things like entrances, stairs, ramps and curbs). For these kinds of features, detailing is critical. One particular area the team focused on is where the glass joints meet the ground. We wanted this to be seamless, as if the glass is emerging from the ground in one perfect, clean motion. And to create that same sensation where the glass met the architecture at the ceiling.
With the installation of this new glass, it’s so exciting to see it all coming together as we had envisioned.”
