Today, Marvel confirmed that Ryan Coogler will direct Chadwick Boseman in the upcoming MCU film Black Panther. Coogler directed the acclaimed Fruitvale Station and most recently directed Sylvester Stallone to a Golden Globe-winning performance in Creed.
In a statement, Kevin Feige spoke both to Coogler’s filmmaking ability as well as what he brings to the Black Panther project:
“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family. The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct Black Panther. Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”
Black Panther will be released in February of 2018 but the character will debut in this summer’s Captain America: Civil War.
