Disney Animation Goes From The Brink Of Closure To Oscar Gold

The New York Times has a report from Walt Disney Animation’s Oscar victory party on Monday.  In the article it is revealed that Walt Disney Animation Studios might have closed:

There was talk of closing this place,” John Lasseter, chief creative officer for Pixar and Disney animation, said through tears to roughly 800 assembled artists. “And we said, ‘Not on our watch. We will never allow that to happen.’

The article also points out that many thought today’s audiences are too cynical for a fairytale musical, but with Frozen the new regime has their first certified smash hit.  According to the report, some are calling this age of Disney animation “the second renaissance”
