Today, Disney has announced a partnership with The Black List to discover new writers for the studio’s Feature Writing Program. The Black List, which began in 2005 as an annual survey of the best unproduced screenplays, will collect submissions over the next two months and compile a shortlist of potential writers to recommend to Disney. Disney will then consider the selected writers for their Feature Writing Program, a one-year residency in Disney’s live-action feature group that consists of development and mentorship opportunities. Commenting on the announcment Sean Bailey, president of Production for The Walt Disney Studios said, “There are countless stories to be told and we’re always looking for new perspectives at every stage of filmmaking, especially during the creation of a script. Disney is thrilled to partner with The Black List to uncover the next generation of creative and talented writers who will create the classic stories of tomorrow.”
