On April 20, FiveThirtyEight and ESPN Films will premiere “A More Perfect Union,” the latest short documentary from its series FiveThirtyEight Elections.  Debuting at the Tribeca Film Festival, the film will examine the discovery of Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s inciting sermons and its impact on the 2008 primary between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

The short, directed by Eric Drath, uses interviews, archives, and a timeline to illustrate the behind-the-scenes drama during a make-or-break moment in the 2008 presidential campaign.

Following the premiere of the documentary, Editor-in-Chief Nate Silver, politics editor Micah Cohen and guests will discuss the film, how the media handled Rev. Wright revelations and what lessons the episode holds for the 2016 election.

“A More Perfect Union” is the second short from the series of five films which delve into some of the most iconic moments in recent U.S. election history. The series premiered on February 4 with The Dean Scream.”
