Avengers Campus has been open for some time now at Disney California Adventure and Marvel fans have been enjoying the opportunity to live out their very own Marvel adventure. Meanwhile, the ongoing “WEB of Spider-Man” series continues to provide the new land with some context.
“WEB of Spider-Man #3” sees the bright young minds of the Worldwide Engineering Brigade head from their New York campus overseas to the new Paris location. Of course, they can’t help but to get into a little more trouble on their way over and Peter as a lot of work on his hands once again.
Peter Parker has been selected by Tony Stark to take part in the Worldwide Engineering Brigade, or W.E.B., to use his brain to make the world a better place. Together with some of the other brightest young minds in the world they have so far cause nothing but trouble.
In order to keep his eye on the team, Tony has decided to have them shipped form the New York campus to the new one in Paris. As you would expect for a bunch of kids who haven’t really traveled much, the opportunity is a very exciting one.
They just can’t seem to stay out of trouble though as their problems, in the form of a certain Goblin, have followed them from New York to France. After yet another attack, the team needs to come together to solve another big problem and save their own lives.
This “WEB of Spider-Man” series serves a very specific purpose. It ties into the new theme park land and provides more context for those who get the chance to experience it. It’s a lot of fun to see some of the details shared between the park and comics and to hear from the characters and their experiences with WEB.
Outside of that though, this series isn’t exactly breaking any new ground. Peter Parker is concealing his secret identity from kids his age while also sneaking off to change into Spider-Man to frequently save their lives. Throw in some other fun characters and you get some entertaining pages, but not exactly a top Spider-Man story.
This issue is a perfect example of the overall series. This issue was a lot of fun for those who are interested in seeing the second Avengers Campus coming to Disneyland Pairs. It’s nice to see the consistency between the comic and what we’re going to get in the parks, even if we don’t really get a glimpse of what WEB will look like in Disneyland Paris.
For those who are only interested in the comics though, this issue was more of the same for this series. The group of young brilliant individuals, who aren’t accustomed to working as part of a team, are forced to come together by some kind of catastrophe. That has been the case with each issue in this series so far and I would expect to see more of the same in the future. To be fair though, this does seem to be building up some kind of bigger story, it just hasn’t quite gotten there yet.
