Earlier today we learned that the Disneyland Forever and World of Color — Celebrate which were created for Disneyland’s Diamond Celebration would be replaced as that promotion ends on September 5th. However, in some surprising news, comments on the Disney Parks Blog confirm that Paint the Night will also close after that date.
Several commenters inquired about the absence of Paint the Night from Disney’s announcement that Fantasy in the Sky and the original World of Color would be returning and Disney responded by saying, “‘Disneyland Forever,’ ‘Paint the Night’ and ‘World of Color – Celebrate!’ were each created for the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, which concludes September 5. Any future plans for these shows have not been determined.”
Paint the Night was originally developed for Hong Kong Disneyland as a 21st-century take on the Electrical Parades that have become a Disney staple. A new version of the show debuted in Disneyland May of 2015 just ahead of the park’s 60th birthday and has been a resounding hit. With that in mind, it is possible that the show returns on a more seasonal basis in the future or perhaps move to another coast.
