Deadline is reporting that Disney is in negotiations with Sam Mendes to direct a live-action version of James and the Giant Peach. Disney previously adapted the Roald Dahl book in 1996 as a stop-motion film directed by The Nightmare Before Christmas’s Henry Selick.
The new take would have a script by Nick Hornby.
Mendes, the director of American Beauty, has been recently working in the James Bond universe as the force behind Skyfall and Spectre.
Recently, Disney was a partner with Dreamworks on another Dahl adaptation, The BFG. While that film under-performed, it obviously did not cool Disney on this property.
