A new movie about the origins and construction of Disneyland is reportedly in the works at the Disney Studios for Disney+ with David Gordon Green (Halloween Kills) attached to direct, according to Deadline.
What’s Happening:
- It has been reported that the director of Halloween Kills, David Gordon Green, is set to direct a movie from Walt Disney Studios set for Disney+ telling the tale of Walt Disney’s journey to building the original Disneyland Park in California.
- Although the director attached is more known for recent successes in the horror genre, Evan Spiliotopoulos has been attached to write the film, and he has a long list of Disney credits to his name, with projects like The Jungle Book 2, Pooh’s Heffalump Movie, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, and the live-action Beauty and the Beast of 2017.
- Disneyland Park opened in 1955, and is the only park developed and built under Walt Disney himself. The park went through many stages of evolution in its design starting in the earliest days from a memo about a “Mickey Mouse Park.” Eventually Disney himself struck a deal with ABC, creating a television series for the network and in turn getting financial assistance for the new venture.
- The new film is reportedly said to follow these origin stories and hurdles, following in the footsteps of the last film featuring Walt Disney business relationships, Saving Mr. Banks, which had Tom Hanks play the entertainment icon in a story about the negotiations for the rights to Mary Poppins from the author P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson).
- No cast information or release date has been set for the new film.
