ESPN Launches New Perspectives Podcast Series

ESPN Audio has debuted today a new podcast series — ESPN Perspectivesdedicated to in-depth storytelling and provocative conversations. ESPN Perspectives will offer  three original shows that provide listeners an inside perspective on a wide variety of issues in the sports world: Capital Games hosted by ESPN.com senior writer Andy Katz and ABC News political director Rick Klein, Inside Out with ESPN commentator Prim Siripipat, and SportsBiz with ESPN Sports Business Reporter Darren Rovell. In its premiere, all three podcasts are dedicated to the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Capital Games with Andy Katz and Rick Klein

Capital Games will examine the crossroads of sports and politics through engaging conversation with high-profile figures in those fields, which increasingly overlap in today’s culture. Hosted by Katz and Klein, Capital Games will combine the resources of ESPN and ABC News to present a unique look at the major issues in sports and politics.

In its premiere, Katz and Klein will discuss security for this year’s Boston Marathon with Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick (D) and Congressman Peter T. King (R) who represents New York’s second district.  King is a member of the Homeland Security Committee and Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence.

SportsBiz with Darren Rovell

SportsBiz with Darren Rovell will feature an inside look at the business of sports. The first show will focus on the business of the Boston Marathon.

Rovell’s first guest, Steven D’Angelo, co-owner of ’47 Brand alongside his three brothers, provides an all-access look at the history of their business and their association with “Boston Strong” following the Boston Marathon bombings. Rovell will also be joined by Mikal Peveto, the director of running at Adidas America and Tom Grilk, the executive director of the Boston Athletic Association.

Inside Out with Prim Siripipat

Inside Out with Prim Siripipat will showcase thought-provoking conversation that delves into the psychological and social impact of sports on athletes. The show will provide listeners an inside perspective on the minds of athletes, revealing the rawest of emotions and experiences.

The inaugural podcast will give a first-person account of Boston Marathon bombings from Demi Clark who was just steps from crossing the finishing line on April 15, 2013, before the first bomb was detonated. Clark recounts the day and the impact it had on herself, her husband and their two young daughters who were in the viewing stands. Siripipat will also be joined by Dr. Jonathan Katz, who explains how traumatic experiences affect the human psyche. Dr. Katz is a licensed psychologist and is currently the sports psychologist for the University of Texas men’s and women’s tennis teams.
