One day after Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher passed away and just as news that her mother Debbie Reynolds had also passed was breaking, a group of fans gathered in Downtown Disney to honor Fisher with a “lightsaber vigil.” As the Orange Country Register reports, nearly 100 people participated in the meet up, which took place in front of the recently closed House of Blues venue. The tribute was completely organized by fans, namely Anaheim resident Jeff Rowan, using social media outlets like Twitter and Facebook, with the actual tribute moment happening at 7:00 p.m.
“Carrie Fisher has meant so much to so many people I felt she deserved it. So has her mom, Debbie Reynolds,” Rowan told the Register. He also said he was shocked how many people made it out to the memorial event, saying “Never in my wildest dreams did I think this many would show up.”
