Planet Hollywood Observatory Opens at Disney Springs

After a long refurbishment Planet Hollywood at Disney Springs has been transformed into Planet Hollywood Observatory. This flagship location has traded in its globe for a stargazing observatory. The reopened location features new spaces including an outdoor patio as well as the Stargazers Lounge. We visited the restaurant shortly after opening to see what has changed and what has stayed the same.

Each of the location’s four floor features a unique ambiance, for example we were seated in the lunar section, but each has a new look and feel which is different from the classic Planet Hollywood look which had been in use since the location opened in 1994.

The new outdoor terrace is a nice option for those that would like to enjoy the Central Florida weather while taking in the sights and sounds of Disney Springs.

The new Stargazer Lounge Florida will focus on craft beers (with 20 on tap) and 10 signature cocktails. While this location will be open soon, we tried the Solar Eclipse which features Jose Cuervo Especial Gold tequila, Cointreau & a perfect balance of citrus juices topped with Grand Marnier.

The 4,500-square-foot video wall is describes as using trompe l’oeil 3D technology so the images appear as being vivid and lifelike.

Of course it wouldn’t be Planet Hollywood without a collection of Hollywood memorabilia. They have made great improvements to showcasing their collection which ranges from The Ten Commandments to Deadpool.

The menu has also been refreshed. While Classic Planet Hollywood options are still available, a line-up of burgers and sandwiches by celebrity chef Guy Fieri have been added. Thanks to a recommendation by our server Sara, we tried the Bacon Mac-N-Cheese which features applewood smoked back, six cheese mac-n-cheese, crispy onion straws, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle & “donkey sauce” on a garlic-buttered brioche bun ($18.99) For those wondering “donkey sauce” is mayo, roasted garlic, mustard, Worcestershire, and s&p.

It wouldn’t be Planet Hollywood without merchandise. Much of it seems to draw upon a “steampunk” vibe while other items feature a space motif.

This new iteration of Planet Hollywood is a welcome refresh to a Disney Springs (Downtown Disney) staple. The Planet Hollywood Observatory is open daily for lunch and dinner. Reservations are available at DisneyWorld.com
