In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Disney Infinity producer Matt Solie claimed that the Amazing Spider-Man 2 game published by Activision and developed by Beenox is not fun for kids:
“I had my nephews, who are eight and five, try ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ which is the epitome of physics-based, buildings attached — [it’s] not really fun for them. They didn’t understand, ‘Why can’t I swing?'” Solie said. “It just made sense for a kids and family game.”
Disney Infinity’s Spider-Man playset is inspired by the Ultimate Spider-Man show on Disney XD which plays fast and loose with the laws of physics. Since Disney Infinity is inspired by toy playing, the thought is that physics does not apply when playing with toys in the land of make-believe.
Disney Infinity 2.0 will be released later this year.
