Pirates of the Caribbean Celebrates 50 Years at Disneyland

Disneyland celebrates the 50th anniversary of the opening of the original Pirates of the Caribbean attraction with special food, merchandise, and entertainment. Fans gathered in New Orleans Square to celebrate the milestone anniversary of the classic Disney attraction.

The headlining item was the limited-time Golden Churro.

The Jolly Roger Punch features a blend of tropical fruit juices—pineapple, orange and mango.

Guests can also pick up their drink in a special anniversary stein.

Other food offerings include Calypso Caribbean Chicken Stew featuring Caribbean-spiced chicken stewed with carrots, onions, celery, potatoes and yucca at the Royal Street Veranda and Harbour Galley. At French Market Restaurant, the Buccaneer Pulled Pork Sandwich is piled high with jerk-spiced pork, topped with sweet and tangy barbecue sauce and pineapple Caribbean-style slaw, and served with fried yucca.

As usual, pins proved to be a popular merchandise option.

Pirate-Speak cards helped the uninitiated talk like a pirate.

There were also temporary tatoos and buttons promoting the upcoming release of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

With the spectacular Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure having opened at Shanghai Disneyland and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales being released this May, the franchise is alive and well at The Walt Disney Company. But all of it started 50 years ago with an attraction at Disneyland that raised the bar and continues to be a highlight to this day.
