Beloved actor Adam West, best known for his portrayal of Batman in the 1960’s television series and movie, passed away last night at the age of 88 after a short battle with leukemia. In a statement (obtained by Variety) referencing his famed role, West’s family said, “Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero.” In addition to the fact that Batman originally ran on ABC, West has a number of other Disney credits to his name including roles in Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, Kim Possible, and ABC’s The Drew Carey Show. Additionally, outside of the Disney universe, fans will likely recognize West as the voice behind the mayor of Quahog on the long-running Fox show Family Guy.
West is survived by his wife Marcelle, six children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
