A new promo for this year’s holiday programming on Disney+ blends together expected offerings like The Nightmare Before Christmas and Home Alone, upcoming series debuting in December like Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and Dream Productions, and some notably outside the box selections.
The minute-long promo mixes together catalog titles that have been long available, including Nightmare and Frozen 2, with recent 2024 films that have just hit Disney+ like Deadpool & Wolverine. Per usual for Disney+, there are titles produced by 20th Century Fox before Disney purchased the company, such as the aforementioned Home Alone and Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas, but more notably, that also extends into R-rated films both old and new from what is now called 20th Century Studios. This includes “Yes, it is a Christmas movie” favorite Die Hard and even 2024’s Alien: Romulus. Sure, one doesn’t instantly think of Alien as a Disney holiday-related series (though actually, Prometheus did take place around Christmas…), but it turns out those xenomorphs are ready to wear some Santa hats! It’s worth noting that among the R-rated films in the promo, only Deadpool & Wolverine is available for all Disney+ subscribers, since Die Hard and Alien: Romulus require a Hulu subscription as well to access them.
The inclusion of Hulu-specific titles brings the promo into another interesting area, which is several holiday films not at all owned by Disney. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Elf and The Polar Express are all included in the promo, despite all three being owned by Warner Bros. However, thanks to streaming deals with Hulu, for those with both a Hulu and Disney+ subscription, these WB holiday films will be available soon to view on Disney+.
