In an exciting announcement on Friday, Special Olympics North America and Special Olympics Florida have selected Orlando as the host city for the 2022 Special Olympics Games USA.
What’s happening:
- Special Olympics North America and Special Olympics Florida announced that Orlando will be the host city for the 2022 Special Olympics Games USA.
- The Games will be held from June 5th–June 10th, 2022 at various locations around the city including:
- YMCA of Central Florida Aquatic Center in Orlando
- U.S. Tennis Association National Campus in Lake Nona
- The 2022 Games will mark the largest humanitarian event in Florida’s history along with celebrating the 50th anniversary of Special Olympics Florida.
- On Friday, May 18th, the Presidents of Special Olympics North America, Florida, and the Special Olympics Games signed documents to officially confirm Orlando as the host city. Those present included:
- Sherry Wheelock, President and CEO of Special Olympics Florida
- Joe Dzaluk, President and CEO of the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games
- Marc Edenzon, Regional President and Managing Director of Special Olympics North America
Why Orlando was selected as host city:
- The Special Olympics North America awarded the honor to the Sunshine State due to the welcoming destination for families. Orlando is also home to some of the world’s most famed attractions, world-class experiences, and sporting venues. Florida itself is known for its hospitality, making it the ideal location for the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games.

- Hundreds will participate in the 2022 Special Olympics Games USA including:
- 4,000 Elite Athletes
- 10,000 Volunteers
- 1,500 Coaches
- 75,000 Fans from all 50 states

- Earlier this year Walt Disney World announced they will invest $34 million in Central Florida Communities. Their contributions will have a positive impact on those in need as well as the volunteers who work so tirelessly to support those in need.
