I’ve got good news and bad news when it comes to Debby, but first just a couple of observations. Some may know, some may not, and some may not care but I did once upon a time work for the little network that could … The Weather Channel. I’ve known Jim Cantore for a long time and he said from where he was yesterday that it looked like the Gulf was engulfing (pun intended) him. Another severe weather expert said that this system was one of the most dangerous setups for flooding that he had ever seen. So it amuses me when people get so excited about whether something is a tropical storm or hurricane … because as you can see – a meandering tropical storm is nothing to take lightly.
That said, the good news is that the new official track has Debby speeding up a bit her triumphant exit OFF the Florida coast. Should that path hold true by Friday the circulation (or what’s left of it) should be over the Atlantic (where the storm will likely restrengthen) and move out to sea. What this means for Walt Disney World is that – if you just hang on a few more days – things will improve.
Most of the convection from Debby is located in North Florida and South Georgia but those clouds you see – yeah that is her. Those winds you feel – yep – Debby. While most of the precipitation is to the north – bands of rain can still move in with heavy rainfall, gusty winds and some of these storm could contain rotation so we need to be alert for tornadoes. In fact Debby’s first causality was indeed from a tornado.
If you are heading to WDW this weekend you should be fine. Temperatures will rise through the week as we get out of this cloud cover. Plan on highs in the upper 80s today and tomorrow and as we head towards Friday temps will pop back up to around 90.
I will still give an extended 4th forecast but this storm has been taking up most of my time.
