It was a great day to announce the next phase in the Disney Infinity franchise. Special guests, invited guests, members of the media and members of Disney Interactive, Marvel and Disney were on hand for the announcement.
“Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes” is the next phase of the Disney Infinity franchise, and is expected to be released this fall. It features more than 20 new interactive figures from across the Marvel universe, original story lines and new Toy Box elements.
In attendance at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood for the event were Clark Gregg, who plays Agent Coulson in the Marvel movie franchise; Joe Quesada, Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment; Jimmy Pitaro, President of Disney Infinity; Brian Michael Bendis, writer at Marvel; John Blackburn, Vice President & General Manager of Disney Infinity; and, John Vignocchi, Executive Producer of Disney Infinity.
They all had that “Christmas Morning” excitement, which was great! They also shared personal experiences with Disney Infinity, which helped as well.
One of my favorite stories was when one of the Johns, (I forget which one), shared about his 5 year old nephew Logan and how much fun it was for him to see his nephew playing the game and even building his own game in the Toy Box. Granted it wasn’t the best scene, but he knew that his nephew was having fun and that’s all that matters for the Disney Infinity Team. They want to take you back to your childhood when you were on playing your bedroom floor and creating your own scenes and stories with your toys.
The good thing about Marvel is that the characters are relatable. Joe Quesada said, “You can interpret the Marvel characters in so many way but they are still authentic.” And that’s what I noticed during the preview videos.
One question that I’m sure would be on the minds of everyone who already has Disney Infinity 1.0 is “Will Disney Infinity 1.0 be compatible with Disney Infinity 2.0?” And that answer is yes! Everything from Disney Infinity 1.0, figures, Toy Boxes, and the base will be compatible with 2.0! I’m sure that’s great news for those with 1.0.
So which characters are joining Disney Infinity 2.0? Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thir, Hawkeye and Black Widow will be a part of 2.0. And over a dozen more Marvel characters are in development.
To close the event, Nick Fury appeared on the screen attempting to release more information, but in true Marvel fashion, a tag appeared announcing more info will be revealed at E3 in June.
Bringing the Marvel characters into Disney Infinity opens up an entirely new genre of gamers. And you don’t have to be a gamer to enjoy this game. Anyone who is a fan of Disney Infinity, Marvel or gaming in general will enjoy this game.
I don’t play Disney Infinity, but this event definitely helped spark my interest in the game.
