Any fan of Disney parks knows about Walt Disney Imagineering, the team of creative people responsible for creating new things for Disney parks around the world. This division has fascinated so many people and Disney Press has published many books on the subject, including a book of exercises to strengthen your own creativity for those that dream of wearing Sorcerer Mickey on their name tag. The newest childrens book from Disney Press is designed to spark the creativity of children who might just grow up to be the next generation of Imagineers.
My Pen tells a simple story about the unlimited potential a young child’s imagination can have when drawing with a pen. Christopher Myers’ illustrations range from realistic to fantastic to impossible. The artwork is so detailed that you might take a slower approach to reading it just to take it all in. But the most impressive thing to me as that there isn’t a single color inside the book other than the white pages and black ink. This allows imaginative children and readers to place their own colors onto the pages in their mind.
Books like My Pen are important because they teach kids to look at the world differently. If your dreams for your child’s future involve them creating the next great Disney attraction, you can’t go wrong with My Pen. Even if they don’t grow up to work for a mouse, they might just create something that will benefit all of mankind just because they were taught at a young age to see things differently and think outside the box. While your kids would probably prefer a book about a Disney character they’re already familiar with, I highly recommend My Pen and other books of this nature.
