At the 2015 Annual Meeting of Shareholders, it was revealed that Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be changing its name. After being asked by a six year old named Gideon if the name was changing, Bob Iger conferred with Tom Staggs, the former head of Parks and Resorts and let it slip that the name is changing. Upon realizing that the change had yet to be announced, Bob Iger said that the name would change but that they would not say what the new name is.
Previously the park was known as Disney-MGM Studios until 2008.
In Bob Iger’s annual letter to shareholders he mentioned that there would be an expansion at Walt Disney World that had yet to be announced. Many are speculating that the name change will be tied to that expansion.
