This spring, SeaWorld Orlando finally answers the age old question “Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?” when they will open a new area of the park. Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch have moved into the former Shamu’s Happy Harbor area, but they haven’t just rethemed the attractions they brought the whole street with them…or they along with a few helping hands are bringing it.
We were lucky enough to don one of these cute hard hats and get a behind the wall look at the progress of the street most of us grew up visiting most of our childhood.
This is the current status of Sesame Stree,t but with construction going non-stop, by spring this will soon be the home of such iconic locations as the 123 Stoop and Mr. Hooper’s Store, complete with merchandise and photo locations with a few friends. SeaWorld worked closely with the Sesame Workshop to bring this new area to life including Big Bird’s Nest where storytelling will take place.
Sesame Street will not just be a collection of buildings but will include a wet and dry play area along with six themed attractions all perfect for the little ones.
- Abby’s Flower Tower – a tower spinner that will give a great view of all of Sesame Street.
- Big Bird’s Whirl ‘n’ Twirl – a teacup type ride but in Big Bird’s nests.
- Cookie Drop – a vertical drop tower with an added bounce.
- Elmo’s Choo Choo Train – the train ride around the center of the area giving a view of everything.
- Slimey’s Slider – a rock and whirl attraction based off of Oscar’s favorite little worm.
- Super Grover’s Box Car Derby – the family-friendly coaster that is perfect for the first “thrill ride” for the little ones.
One of the highlights to a visit to Sesame Street will be a first for SeaWorld Orlando, the “Sesame Street Party Parade.” The parade will feature larger-than-life themed floats including iconic Sesame Street favorites such as Mr. Hooper’s Store and will star everyone’s favorite Sesame Street friends.
This new area will be a welcome addition to this already beautiful park and I know I haven’t been able to stop singing the Sesame Street theme song since my visit.
