I Love ???
I love the new Toy Story themed attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios but I'm just not sure yet what to call it. As Disney fans we've been taught to pay attention to attraction names. We know that Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin is in the Magic Kingdom while the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters are in Disneyland. We also know that during the creative process these names can change as evidenced by the construction walls that stood along the Rivers of America announcing the upcoming show Imagination! which eventually became Fantasmic! (More Fantasmic! history) So as the new Toy Story attraction developed we listened intently to the various Disney spokespeople talking about the ride to see what's it new name would be. We heard several options and as opening day approaches I'm not 100% confident I know the name of the new Toy Story attraction.
Exhibit A in my dilemma — The Current Park Map
Exhibit B. The attraction marquee
Here's my understanding of the nomenclature at this point — after asking around a bit.
Sign posted at the entrance area of the new attraction
The attraction is named Toy Story Mania! — with the exclamation point. This is the name on the merchandise (here's the pin art) and I suspect this will be the name on the park maps, etc. But the experience is Toy Story Midway Mania! created by Andy's toys from a Toy Story Midway Games play set. While waiting for the attraction Mr. Potato Head invites guests to "Midway Mania — its a ride that's a game, its a game that's a ride.
The Toy Story Midway Games Play Set sign above the ride vehicle's entrance to the game
So do I love Toy Story Mania! or Toy Story Midway Mania!? Note to self: both feature an exclamation point. What will guidebooks call it? What will be the correct trivia answer? Will Samantha Brown describe the fun of Toy Story Midway Mania! or Toy Story Mania!? These are the odd questions that pop into your head after hours upon hours eating, sleeping, breathing Disney theme parks.
Whatever the name that new Toy Story game is a fun ride (-or- is that new Toy Story ride a fun game?) and I'm looking forward to more trips to Disney's Hollywood Studios in hopes of improving my score.
