Fox 2000’s 2018 gay romance film Love, Simon is getting a television series treatment for Disney+, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
- Disney+ has given a straight-to-series order for a series based on author Becky Albertalli's Leah on the Offbeat, her sequel to Love, Simon.
- While Fox 2000 produced the film, the series will come from the now Disney-owned 20th Century Fox Television.
- It was reported last month that Disney plans to retire the Fox 2000 film label.
- Greg Berlanti, who directed the 2018 film, will not return for the Disney+ series due to his overall deal with Warner Bros. TV.
- Screenwriters Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker will return however, and serve as showrunners for the new series.
- The series will also feature a new cast, though no casting decision have been announced at this time.
- Love, Simon was the first book for Albertalli, who also served as a writer for the film adaptation.
- The 2015 book was followed by the sequel in 2018.
