So Disneyland and Walt Disney World announced another year of a million dreams. I don't mind Disney extending a popular marketing campaign, but this one was promoted as lasting a year, not two years. Knowing we still have a lot to look forward to in 2008, such as Toy Story Mania, softens the blow. But I can't help but feel that this celebration was extended because no one had another idea. I know the campaign has been considered succesful considering that visitation is even when compared to last year when they had the 50th anniversary going on, which by the way is a real reason to have a celebration. But don't they think that by extending this year long celebration, the impact the campaign has might dillute itself. I stand by my position that it is time for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts to step up to the plate, and announce their creative vision. The Year of a Million Dreams was supposed to be the hit that got the ball rolling. Now it is the time to score.
Quick Takes:
Studio Entertainment: The Muppet Show Season 2 DVD was released today. Since Disney acquired the Muppets, Disney has done little with the franchise. The Muppets Wizard of Oz aired on ABC and season one was release in 2005 and that has been about it. I am guessing Bob Iger is not nearly about the Muppets as Michael Eisner was. In fact I feel the only reason Michael acquired them was to save his reputation as he was involved in his fight against Save Disney at the time. Showing the lack of attention the Muppets are getting you can go to www.muppets.com and see they are still celebrating Kermit's 50th birthday. Kermit premiered in 1955, the same year as Disneyland. So if we have stopped celebrating Disneyland's birthday, I think it is time to stop celebrating Kermit's.
Media Networks: You can get a sneak peek at Fanboy's pick for the number one new ABC show at the Hollywood Forever cemetery on August 16th at 8 pm. Cast and producers will be on hand to introduce the screening. There will even be treats at the conclusion of the screening.
Consumer Products: The next set of Disney stamps will premiere at the American Gardens Theatre on Thursday, August 16th at 1pm. This set is themed to Magic and will feature Sorcerer Mickey, Aladdin and the Genie, Peter Pan and Tinker Bell, and Dumbo and Timothy.
