So Disney announced their 2009 and beyond slate now that the writer's strike is over. Here are my thoughts on the upcoming releases.
Confessions of a Shopaholic" In what is becoming an annual tradition, the Valentine's Day release sounds mushy. Or perhaps it is about Disneyland Resort Annual Passport holders.
"G-Force" On July 24th, 2009, Disney along with Jery Bruckehimer will release a movie about a team of trained secret agent guinea pigs that take on a mission for the US government to stop an evil billionaire, who plans to destroy the world with household appliances. Sounds like my kind of film, even tough it reminds me a lot of Perry the Platapus from Phineas and Ferb.
"The Hannah Montana Movie" Is there any question that this movie will be a hit? The only question will be when will we see, "J.O.N.A.S.: The Movie" directed by Kenny Ortega.
"Old Dogs" This film, from the minds (if you can call it that) that brought us "Wild Hogs" will be unwatchable. Sadly, since it is being released by Disney, somehow I need to find a way to sit through it. My job can be tough at times. Look at it this way, can't be worse than Pirates 2.
"Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" Most movies based on video games, are not good. Maybe Disney can challenge the status quo and being the trend of good video game inspired films. Maybe Disney can ever make up for the awful Mario Bros. movie of my youth.
"The Proposal" Chick flick. And the sad part is I probably will end up seeing it with Doobie. What is my life coming to?
"Race to Witch Mountain" Presuming that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson can get through filming without hurting his arm, this film will be released on March 13, 2009.
"The Surrogates" This Bruce Willis film can't be worse that Disney's The Kid.
"Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland" I am a little worried on how Tim Burton's take on this classic story, could change the Alice in Wonderland brand. The Mad Tea Party might get a new overlay that could blow our minds.
So looks like we have an interesting year or so ahead of us. See you at the movies.
Quick Takes:
Parks and Resorts: A new Waste Management exhibit opened at Epcot's Innoventions. This is a great opportuinity to find out what happened to all of those Rocket Rods and Light Magic floats.
Media Networks: I just have to show some love to my new favorite Disney Channel show, "Phineas and Ferb". I love its sense of humor. For example, my favorite line of the episode I saw today, "80's music is so 2002". I have not enjoyed a Disney Channel animated show this much since Kim Possible. Check it out, if you have not already.
Consumer Products: Disney announced they will be opening 135 new Disney Stores in India. Do you remember when Disney was trying to close Disney Stores? I wonder if they are regretting selling them to Children's Place.
Video of the Day: I know its an election year so the news sometimes tends to get a little nasty. However should Mary Poppins be exposed to such exposure? ABC News is reporting that the nanny that is practically perfect in every way lied. Click here for details. (Thanks Rebekah for sending me the link and posting it in headlines)
