We are getting closer and closer to the long awaited launch of Disney+, and that also means the premiere of the highly anticipated High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Luckily, for those of use who can’t wait until November, People has a first look at the upcoming series.
- This new 10-episode series will pick up nearly 15 years after the original movie aired at the real-life location where it all began: East High.
- It follows a group of students as they countdown to the opening night of their school’s first-ever production of “High School Musical.”
- Showmances blossom; friendships are tested while new ones are made; rivalries flare and lives are changed forever as these young people discover the transformative power that only a high school drama club can provide.
- Brand-new songs and acoustic “rehearsal room” reinterpretations of songs from the original “High School Musical” provide the soundtrack for an unlikely group of theater kids who learn “we’re all in this together” when it comes to pulling off an against-all-odds opening night.
- The series will be available at launch of Disney+ on November 12.
What they’re saying:
- Tim Federle, creator and showrunner: “Doing theater is all about finding your tribe. I can’t wait till the world meets the crazy-talented new tribe of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.”
- Federle on the original movies: “There aren’t a lot of writers who get to launch a new streaming platform like Disney+. It’s a privilege to create a love letter to fans of the original High School Musical movies while also making an irreverent, feel-good musical for a new generation.”
