Disney Skyliner Reopens to Guests at Walt Disney World

This morning, Walt Disney World’s new transportation system the Disney Skyliner reopened. The return comes more than a week after an incident led some guests to be stuck in gondolas for three hours or more.

What’s Happening

  • The Disney Skyliner is taking guests back to the sky for the first time in over a week.
  • Disney is advising that all three lines of the gondola system (Pop Century/Art of Animation – Caribbean Beach, Caribbean Beach – Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Caribbean Beach – Epcot) will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. today.
  • However, further updates to the system are planned for later this week that may adjust operation times.
  • Currently the Disney’s Hollywood Studios line is expected to be closed from 1:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16th.
  • Additionally, all of the lines are expected to have delayed openings on Thursday, October 17th and Friday, October 18th, operating from 1 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on those days.

ICYMI – Disney Skyliner

  • On Saturday, October 5th, an incident caused the Epcot line of the Disney Skyliner to halt for several hours, leaving many guests in the air.
  • Disney reports that there were no injuries from the incident, although MyNews13 reports that three guests were transported to the hospital for medical attention.
  • Regarding the incident and the system’s extended closure, a Disney spokesperson said, “We have a team diligently looking into the cause of the malfunction on the Epcot line of the Disney Skyliner.  We have been in contact with the guests, many of whom were on the Skyliner for more than three hours until we were able to restart the system. We express our sincere apologies for the inconvenience and continue to work with each guest individually.”
