Last year, Sony Pictures Animation welcomed us into the Spider-Verse with the release of the Academy Award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Announced earlier today, the sequel will be heading our way April 8, 2022
What’s Happening:
- No details for the sequel aside from the release date of April 8, 2022 have been announced.
- Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse did leave several openings for a sequel, especially after a post-credits scene with Spider-Man 2099.
- The announcement by Sony Pictures Animation appeared with numerous iterations of the Miles Morales Spidey logo. The Spider-Verse features alternate universe versions of different Spider-characters, so we could be seeing hints that we'll be meeting alternate versions of Miles Morales himself.
- Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are brought their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that was the first of its kind.
- Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduced Brooklyn teen Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.
- The voice cast of Into the Spider-Verse included Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Jake Johnson as Peter Parker, Liev Schreiber as Kingpin, Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen, Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir, John Mulaney as Spider-Ham, Kimiko Glenn as Peni Parker, Mahershala Ali as Aaron, Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson, Luna Lauren Velez as Rio, Lily Tomlin (“Grace and Frankie”) as Aunt May, and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099.
- Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman, with a screenplay by Phil Lord. The film was produced, in association with Marvel, by Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Christina Steinberg.
