There’s always a great, big, beautiful tomorrow when it comes to the Disney Parks and for Disneyland that means a brand new entrance to Tomorrowland. The Disney Parks Blog has shared a look at some concept art for the new entrance to the futuristic area of the park.
- The new entrance is a part of Project Stardust, which has seen enhancements throughout the park covering everything from beautification of some areas to maximizing guest flow.
- No specific debut date has been set for the new entrance to Tomorrowland but it is set to be complete in 2020.
- When planning out this new entrance, Imagineers wanted to open up the space to allow smoother guest flow and improve access to the land.
- As seen in the rendering above, the new entrances will feature a widened pathway lined with elliptical planters filled with swirls of colorful flowers.
- Imagineers took inspiration from past Tomorrowland entrances, like the one for “new” Tomorrowland in 1967 which featured the Googie architecture that had become representative of the Space Age.
- This new entrance features two Space Age-inspired spires on either side of the walkway.
- Construction on this new entrance began back in August, with the removal of the giant bronze rocks that formerly welcomed guests to Tomorrowland.
- Those rocks were put in place in front of the Astro Orbitor attraction in 1998 and were considered by some to be an eyesore for two decades.
What they’re saying:
- Disney Imagineer Kim Irvine: “Tomorrowland has always represented a feeling of optimism. [Imagineer] John Hench originally designed the land with this notion of being wide open to innovative ideas and technology. When we started looking at the different Tomorrowland entrances through the years, both the 1955 and 1967 versions had a very optimistic appeal which resonated with us.”
