LP Lotion: Jolly Holiday Bakery Caf Set to Open This Saturday in Disneyland
Page 1 of 7
Fresh baked goods, savory soup and gourmet coffees are joined by everybody’s favorite magical nanny and a mountain-climbing penguin (more on that later!) in Disneyland’s newest restaurant. The former Plaza Pavilion is set to officially open as the Jolly Holiday Bakery Café on Saturday, January 7. A soft opening was held on Thursday, pleasing crowds who soon had the place bustling.
The exterior seems little changed, until one notices subtle details. The weather vane, depicting Mary Poppins with her umbrella and carpetbag, is quite plain to see. The original entrance archway, with a new sign, features a whimsical penguin waiter. Entering through the center doors, two lines are offered. Stained glass windows, display cases and framed prints reinforce the new theme. Even the floor gets a touch of Poppins magic, with a mosaic mural representing a chalk pavement drawing.
The opening day menu features baked goods, heartier fare, gourmet coffees and beverages.

As the Jolly Holiday Bakery Café opens, the Main Street shops on the northwest side of the street (from Blue Ribbon Bakery to Coke Corner) have been closed for a lengthy refurbishment (through June, 2012). It is expected that the Blue Ribbon Bakery will become part of the Carnation Café. In addition, support facilities for the entire block will be upgraded and expanded. Oscar, who was honored for 55 years of service at Disneyland in December was greeting guests at the Jolly Holiday Bakery Café.
Oh, and about that mountain-climbing penguin? It seems that cast members noticed this phenomenon right away. When standing on the porch at the front doors, facing the Matterhorn, guests can see the back of the entrance archway, with the message “Please Come Again.” A penguin waiter accents the center of the top of the sign. From certain angles, the little fellow appears to be standing on the Matterhorn! Hence, “the mountain-climbing penguin” of the Jolly Holiday Bakery Café.
