Disney Channel Ranks No. 1 in Prime Time in October With Kids and Tweens
Disney Channel Bests Other Kid Networks in Ratings Growth
Disney Channel was the top-ranked network in prime time in October with kids and tweens on the strength of its original series "Lizzie McGuire" and "The Proud Family," and this month's Disney Channel Original Movie, "Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge."
Disney Channel ranked No. 1 with kids 6-14 (3.7 rating) and tweens 9-14 (3.8 rating). Disney Channel also tied for the No. 2 spot in prime time with persons 2+ (0.9 rating.) In both total day and prime time ratings, Disney Channel posted the largest growth with kids 6-11 (+17% in prime time/ +14% in total day), kids 6-14 (+23% in prime time/ +25% in total day) and tweens 9-14 (+27% in prime time) among all key kid cable networks.
The premiere of the latest Disney Channel Original Movie, "Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge" (10/12, 8 p.m.), was the top telecast of the month on both broadcast and basic cable television with kids 6-11 (14.9 rating), kids 6-14 (12.7 rating) and tweens 9-14 (12.6 rating). The movie was Disney Channel's highest-rated original movie ever among kids 2-11 (11.2 rating), kids 6-11 (14.9 rating), kids 6-8 (12.6 rating) and kids 9-11 (17.0 rating).
Disney Channel's original series "Lizzie McGuire" and "The Proud Family" continued to draw strong numbers in October. "Lizzie McGuire" won the Friday, 7:30 p.m. time period for the month of October against all basic cable programming in households (2.2 rating), persons 2+ (1.3 rating), kids 6-11 (7.4 rating) and tweens 9-14 (6.4 rating.) In October on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in its 6 p.m. airing, "The Proud Family" ranks No. 1 against all basic cable competition with kids 6-11 (4.2 rating), kids 6-14 (4.0 rating) and tweens (4.3 rating.)
On Oct. 26, Disney Channel's special "Fresh Fright-dayz" programming stunt (3 p.m.-12 a.m.) garnered a 3.6 rating among tweens, beating key kid cable competition by more than 60%. "Fresh Fright-dayz" also outperformed the competition with kids 9-11 (4.0 rating) and teens 12-17 (2.0 rating). The special Halloween stunt included an encore airing of "Halloweentown II," along with special themed episodes of original series "Lizzie McGuire" and "Even Stevens."
