"Pay Attention, It's Showtime"
On April 1, 1999, a website called LaughingPlace.com went live. At the time it contained a Disneyland website directory and search engine and was updated daily with Disneyland news headlines from around the web. Immediately after launching I decided I would expand the site to include all of Disney and turn it into more of an online magazine with original features and columns. Over the next four months the new site was planned and designed and the result was a re-launch of LaughingPlace.com on August 1, 1999 in a format very similar to what you see today. I now consider August 1st to be our official anniversary date.
LaughingPlace.com was started with one simple goal - to become the best independent Disney site on the Internet. I'll leave it for readers to decide how close we're coming to that goal, but there's no doubt we've made our mark in the Disney online community and I'm very proud of that.
Today I'm also very pleased to announce our association with The DIS: Pete Werner's Unofficial Online Guide to Disney World and Dreams Unlimited Travel. Click here for details on that announcement.
LaughingPlace.com has changed my life in many ways - most good but some bad. The best part is I get to work on it together with my wife. It's allowed both my wife and I to become very close friends with some LaughingPlace.com staff members. I've been able to do things I otherwise wouldn't have done and meet people I likely never would have met. I've also had the opportunity to exchange email and/or meet with several readers and become friends with them.
Thank you to everyone who's played a part in the success of LaughingPlace.com. That includes all 22 people listed on our About Us page, the numerous other friends who've contributed in various ways, the dozens of regular posters and hundreds of occasional posters on the Discussion Boards and the thousands of readers who visit on a regular basis. Thank you everyone for making this first year possible. The best is yet to come, I guarantee it.
