Editor's Report

Everybody Plays The D-Show
It's been a long, long time since I've done one of these. But once again, here I am. Long ago I used to do a weekly Editor's Report for LaughingPlace.com. Eventually, that just became too much for me to commit to so I started doing them less regularly and eventually stopped altogether. Well once again, the Editor's Report is going weekly. It won't have a dedicated day of the week like it has in the past, but at least one day each week you can could on (or run from) reading me and my take on some aspect of the world of Disney.
ABC...
Lately I've been spending a lot of time watching ABC. As I'm sure most of you know, ABC is
owned by The Walt Disney Company so I consider it a part of my job (what a tough life!) to
watch new ABC shows and try to keep up with what's going on with the network. Last night
two new shows debuted - Veritas: The Quest and Miracles. I tuned in to
both shows and the result - for me - was a split decision. However, I must commend ABC for
producing two original, high concept dramas instead of two more reality shows - not that
they don't have plenty of those already. Veritas: The Quest, was kind of an
Indiana Jones type show about a father and son and their search for a lost civilization.
TV shows like that aren't really my cup of tea and this one was no exception. The
relationships between the father and son and between the son and his tutor seemed out of
place. But I did enjoy the adventure part of it, somewhat, so I'll that alone will get me
to tune in again and give it another shot.
Miracles was a show I'd looked forward to since seeing the previews. It reminded me a lot of Signs, a movie I really loved last year. The ending was predictable and it moved kind of slow, but the story really hooked me and throughout I was genuinely scared (which, admittedly doesn't always take much). I'll definitely be tuning in again. Between the two shows was The Practice, now on a new night. The Practice has been one of my favorite dramas for years, but last season I finally grew bored with it and I think I've only seen a couple of episodes this season. I think it's gone away from some of the things that have made it great. Having two partners that were on trial for murder in a matter of two or three years was a bit much for me. Unfortunately, I think much of America agrees as ABC finished fourth on Monday. But I do hope Miracles somehow makes it...
...because if it doesn't, I fear we'll only get more reality TV. I remember a couple of years ago and ABC executive made a statement, while talking about reality TV, that went something like "ABC will not stoop to the level of other networks." Since that time we've had The Chair, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. I don't consider myself a prude and I don't begrudge those that produce, go on and watch these shows (I was a fan of The Chair), but it's not great television and I'd love to see ABC - and Disney - do great television again.
...Easy as 1-2-3
LaughingPlace.com has a tradition of launching things on Super Bowl Sunday. In
2000 we launched our Discussion Boards and in 2001 we launched LaughingPlace Radio. In
2002 we launched ... nothing. But I did enjoy the game :) However, here we are two days
later and I guess I just couldn't help myself. For today I'm very pleased to announce a
new daily show on LaughingPlace Radio called simply, The Doobie Show. Now
don't get your hopes too high, there's a reason we didn't do this on Super Bowl Sunday.
But it's something I've been thinking about for a while and I've finally decided to do it.
The Doobie Show is a daily show (every weekday except holidays) where I, Doobie Moseley,
will talk about Disney and other things on my mind and play my favorite Disney music.
Pretty basic, pretty simple, but hopefully kind of fun. So tune in to LaughingPlace
Radio and let me know what you think. We're not sure yet what time it'll be broadcast
every day, so check out the LaughingPlace Radio schedule to
find out. We do know today's show will be debut at 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time Tuesday and
repeat at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Happy Trails!
