This week, it's all trivial.

Trivia Time

I've always been a fan of Disney trivia and the lesser-known aspects of the Company. When I first became a Disneyland fan back in 1995 I immediately bought David Koenig's Mouse Tales and read it cover to cover. When it was available I bought the incredible Disneyland: The Nickel Tour by Bruce Gordon and the late David Mumford. I think I read it twice before I put it down for any appreciable length of time. And, of course, I scoured the Internet for Disney information including the alt.disney.disney newsground.

Not too long after that I decided it wouldn't be all that difficult to create a Disneyland website. Of course trivia was the natural way for me to go so the site contained a page on the Windows of Main Street, other tributes throughout the park and a trivia contest. To gain interest in the site I decided to offer prizes for the contest winners. That website, Doobie's Disneyland Home Page, moved around and changed over the years, but the final version of it can still be seen - pretty much as it was the day I abandoned it - at www.irccomputing.com/DLTrivia. The trivia contest answers have been taken down so we could reuse some of the questions here. (Side note of no interest: The site I abandoned that page for was not LaughingPlace.com. It was The Hub, a searchable web directory for Disneyland sites with ratings, categories and descriptions. The Hub latter evolved into LaughingPlace.com).

The trivia contest lives on to this day with LaughingPlace.com's 182nd contest debuting on Sunday. That's more than 2,700 questions. As much as I love trivia, if I had to come up with all those I would've ran out long ago. Luckily I've had the pleasure of working with two Disney trivia geniuses over the years who've kept the contests fresh and interesting while allowing me to concentrate on other things. A whole lotta thank yous to Matt Walker and Mark Wharff, the former and current trivia contest creators and the only two members of LaughingPlace.com's Trivia Hall of Fame for the invaluable work they've done in creating the contests. Truly, without them it couldn't have been done.

The LaughingPlace.com contests had another benefit for me. Because of our trivia connection I contacted Mike Cook, the host of Hooked on Trivia, radio's only call-in game show, and asked him if we could interview him for our website. Mike is a big Disney fan and often asks Disney questions on his show. Rebekah and I discovered his show flipping dials while driving home from Disneyland one day. Mike happily agreed to the interview which can be read here. But what came next was the big surprise - Mike asked Rebekah and I if we could come on the show to talk about Disney, the website and ask Disney trivia questions. YES! was the quick answer. We've been on two times so far and our third visit has been scheduled. Rebekah and I will be on the show Saturday night, March 15th at 9:35p. We're scheduled to be on for an hour, but if the past is any indication, we'll be around for a lot longer than that. Hooked on Trivia can be heard on KFMB 760 AM out of San Diego, CA. The show can also be heard on the Internet at www.760kfmb.com  Last time we were on lots of LP readers called in. There was also an ongoing chat on the Discussion Boards as the show went on that Rebekah and I were able to participate in from the studio. It was tons of fun and we hope you can listen and call in. Tell the screener you're from LaughingPlace.com and we'll try to get you on as soon as possible.

While I'm throwing out thank yous, I need to thank Trent Lewis for the triumphant return of DRL: Disney Request Line on LaughingPlace Radio. Trent is the host of the show and last week's show, Top 10 Pop Versions, was very, very good. If you missed it, it will be rebroadcast at Noon Pacific Time on Saturday, March 1st.  Because of our having two weeks between shows now, Trent will use the off week for a show of his own. I'm not quite sure what it'll be yet. We'll all find out together.

But remember, DRL is your show. The countdown is compiled using your votes. So Vote Now on this week's DRL - Sherman Brothers Songs.

And May All Your Problems Be Trivial.
