Such an Exciting Week!
The most exciting time of my year is always in the Fall. Rebekah and I take one and a half to two weeks off to go out of town, usually to Walt Disney World. I look forward to it every year. But a close second would be the week we're in now - Disneyland's birthday week. That means it's also NFFC week and LaughingPlace.com Meet week.
When we launched LaughingPlace.com our originally scheduled launch date was July 17th - Disneyland's birthday. But like many technical projects, things got pushed back and we ended up delaying two weeks until August 1st. That turned out to be the best thing that could've happened because now our anniversary doesn't get lost in the shuffle of everything else that goes on around Disneyland's birthday.
Anyway - as I began, such an exciting week! The excitement begins today with NFFC Registration and the welcome reception. Now lest you think it's too late - there's still time to head down the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Garden Grove and register for all or part of the convention. Space is still available. See our NFFC Section for more information. While the seminars and the Show and Sale are great, the best part is being able to spend time with other Disney fans and fanatics. The best event (to me) looks to be the Legends Luncheon on Saturday afternoon with Wayne Allwine and Russi Taylor - the husband and wife team that do the voices of Mickey and Minnie.
It's always great to be at Disneyland's birthday. This year the park doesn't seem to have anything major planned in the way of a ceremony. There will be a short speech by Disneyland Resort President Cynthia Harriss at the hub at 7:45 a.m. But it's still always great to be at Disneyland on the birthday. You can count on a ton of fans being there. And for the pin fans you can check out Mickey's All-American Pin Quest. Disneyland's birthday also a good time to stroll around and take in the now-48-year history of the park (where exactly were the Flying Saucers?), ride the opening day rides that are still there (can you even name them all?) or look at an area and try to figure out all the things that have been there (Innoventions, America Sings, Carousel of Progress, but what about before 1967?). I'm a Disneyland history buff and it makes the current Disneyland all the more enjoyable.
But the thing I'm most looking forward to this week is the annual LaughingPlace.com Meet. This will be the fourth time we've had a meet at Disneyland on Disneyland's birthday. However, it will be the first time we've rented out a location (Big Thunder BBQ) to hold an "official" meet. Because we asked people to pay this year to cover the cost of the private location, we were very concerned the turnout would be way down. But that doesn't seem to be the case. It looks like it's going to be a great crown. It's good to reminded there are real people out there and we're not just putting this together for our own amusement. I'm very excited about the event but mostly excited about the opportunity to meet so many LaughingPlace.com readers.
So as our fourth birthday approaches, I'd like to once again thank everyone who helps make LaughingPlace.com happen. That means all the writers, the discussion board moderators, the regulars on the boards who are helpful in so many different ways and everyone else who helps out behind the scenes. But most importantly I want to thank all the readers. You guys not only make LaughingPlace.com a success by coming here day after day. You also make it possible by supporting our advertisers and buying from The LaughingPlace Store. Rebekah and I truely appreciate you guys and look forward to many years go come.
Have a great week!
