In their efforts to put Boo (as Sulley names the tot) back where she belongs, Mike and Sulley uncover a fiendish plot led by Sulley's main rival at Monsters, Inc., the creepy chameleon Randall Boggs (Steve Buscemi), as well as some secrets that could either save their careers or have them forever banished to the realm of humans.
Monsters, Inc. is a fun family film that unfortunately doesn't live up to the legacy of it's predecessors in the Disney/Pixar oeuvre. A comedic zenith is never quite achieved, although it is very apparent that they have worked hard towards that goal.
Unlike the Toy Stories, which consistently mined fresh laughs from their "toys are real" premise throughout two full features, Monsters relies almost exclusively on "monsters just like people" gags, a joke that wears very thin by the umpteenth variation of "hey look, the monsters are on a coffee break, how funny is that?"-type shtick.
