On September 29, 1999 the updated Imagination Pavilion in Future World at Epcot was rededicated. In this article, the second in our Walt Disney World Millennium series, we'll take you through the rededication and the new attraction, Journey Into Your Imagination.
Images of large bells ringing out appear on the rooftop of the Imagination Pavilion. Followed by images of people from around the world clad in traditional costume (pictured above) as overhead pyrotechnics burst.
Three figures arise and recite the following prose, alternating speakers line by line.
Imagination!
a mental image
an exclamation
culmination of rumination
exploration
excitation!
from inside a brain
in all its gyrations
comes inspiration
illumination
visualization
digitization
ages of communication
in every city
in every nation
from printing press
from radio station
ideas new
or imitation
exhortation
proclamation
from subtle hint
to declaration!
expressions of a mind's creation
with sights and sounds and celebration
to offer now an invitation
come inside Imagination!
Images of various famous world landmarks and artwork are displayed on the Imagination Pavilion including the Mona Lisa, the Great Pyramids of Egypt, and the Eiffel Tower.
The voices begin again,
a fleeting thought
passing notion
moments, emotions
timeless ideas
hopes and fear
laughter, sadness, joy and tears
innovation
dedication.
Time lapse images of Spaceship Earth are displayed on the Pavilion's ceiling, the music volume and tempo build.
exhilaration
Celebration!
Time lapse image of various flowers bursting into full bloom flash across the Pavilion rooftop. The music tempo increases to a maddening speed. The large stars that are shining on the audience begin to move at an ever increasing pace.
A voice announces, "The Walt Disney World Resort and Eastman Kodak Company proudly presents a Journey Into Your Imagination!" Fireworks light up the sky and the ceiling that had been used as a screen for the various images is illuminated from within revealing the buildings infrastructure.
The three speakers call out to the audience, Welcome! Please come in!
